Just a few more days and most of the school kids will be back in the classroom. Here are some more ways to make Math easier for our children.
The number above looks difficult to solve. But again, this can be simplified by looking for the pair of number that make up 51.
Dr. Yeap Ban Har explained how children can look at the number to make it easier to solve. Again, start with what you know. We know that 30 and 21 make 51. It is a lot easier to divide 30 by 3, and also easier to divide 21 by 3.
From this we can solve that 51 divided by 3 is 17!
We can solve 84 divided by 7 the same way. We know that 70 and 14 make up 84. It will be easy to divide 70 by 7 (answer is 10) and 14 by 7 (answer is 2). 84 divided 7 is 12!
I grew up using the long division technique. And just realized it was way more difficult than this.
How I wish my grade school Math teacher had known this method when I was in grade school.
Have fun teaching your kids Math!
